Responsible for the growth and development of a uniform strategy for a portfolio of categories. The role will ensure the overarching merchandising vision is executed in order to increase sales and profits within the portfolio. This role will develop and manage vendor relations, creating dynamic partnerships that fulfill the company’s needs with regards to quality and cost savings.
Develop a uniform vision for the portfolio of categories that complements the merchandising department’s goals. Use knowledge of the competitive landscape to understand market trends and drive profitable sales. Create a dynamic plan to improve the category with regards to pricing, own brand development, and trade planning. Ensure team understands the portfolio vision along with any relating strategies in order to act as cohesive working unit for the categories.
2. Category Development
Execute the strategic vision for the portfolio. Plan all promotional activities regarding the portfolio of categories. Take ownership of all financial outcomes with regards to the portfolio. Use financial knowledge to forecast sales, profits, and shrink for the categories. Regularly negotiate with vendors while maintaining positive relationships. Negotiate any large transactions and joint business partnerships relating to any of the portfolio categories.
Ensure proper execution of all initiatives by partnering with various cross functional departments. Work through the implementation of any plans with the store support center operational team and retail leadership. Partner with stores to create ownership of the category vison for the associates. Encourage feedback on categories to improve the portfolio.
Manage, coach, and develop a team of individuals within merchandising. Lead by example with regards to building positive relationships and foster a learning environment to grow associates. Develop succession plans and create development goals for the team.

Experience negotiating complicated business dealings with various vendors.
Strong financial acumen.
Excellent communication and presentation skills to all levels of associates both internally and externally.

Experience managing merchandising for a large business unit while creating a positive business returns.
Strong ability to proactively strategize department wide action plans and implement said plans timely and efficiently.

Store Support Center
While performing the essential functions of this position, the associate is regularly (67-100%)required to sit, use hands or fingers to handle, hold or feel objects, tools or controls, talk, see, hear and perform repetitive movements with both hands. The employee is occassionally (1-33%)required to stand or walk on carpet, tile or concrete, carry, push, lift or pull up to 10 lbs.
